The LEGEND of the Candy Cane
A Candymaker in Indiana wanted to make a candy that would help us remember who Christmas is really about. So he made a Christmas Candy Cane. He incorporated several symbols for the birth, ministry, and death of Jesus Christ.
He began with a stick of pure white, hard candy. White to symbolize the virgin birth and sinless nature of Jesus. Hard candy to symbolize the solid rock, the foundation of the Church, and firmness of the promises of God.
The candymaker made the candy in the form of a "J" to represent the name of Jesus. It also represented the staff of the "Good Shepherd".
The candymaker then included red stripes. He used three small stripes and a large red stripe to represent the suffering Christ endured at the end of his life.
The candy became known as a Candy Cane - a decoration seen at Christmas time. The meaning has faded, but still gives joy to children young and old, whom Jesus loves and treasures.
Hope all of you are having a wonderful Christmas season...we finally started getting some colder weather...so that helps with the whole holiday spirit thing.
I just love that...there are other stories out there, too...but this one is the one I wanted to share...enjoy...
In other news...
I am having to return to the doctor for further test tomorrow on my UTI...it seems the meds I was given last Thursday are gone but the urinary tract infection isn't...I won't be able to get in to see the doctor till Thursday...but the nurse tells me with more involved testing it will take that long to get the results...Have I told you how much FUN menopause is...plus I think he needs to change my meds for this cold/sinusthingy, too...so far that is still lurking...but the ear is much better...thanks for all your kind wishes, thoughts and prayers...please keep em' coming...I'm thinking this week is going to be a little stressful with all I have to do...I don't have time to be sick!!
Blessings...

Thank you for reminding me of the candy cane story. Hope you're feeling better soon; I do hate UTI's!!
Thanks for stopping by,
Deb
You know, Sister Mary Teresa told us the story of the Candy Cane in nineth grade (Bishop D.J. O'Connell High School)...how odd that you should remind me of that. Please take care and don't worry...Thursday is just around the corner!
I had heard this story long ago and loved seeing it again. I have been thinking about you and hoping you were better.
This post was so lovely and the picture so pretty. Thank you for sharing it all with us!
Hugs,
Sue
Hi,
Thank you for the candy cane story! I just read a very similar version on the box of candy canes I bought!
I agree with you about menopause....don't like it one bit! Hope you are feeling better soon.
I just took some time to go thru some back posts of yours. I am going to Tuscany in the late spring and your pictures and posts just make me want to be there now!

Hi Teresa,
I've never heard that story of the candy cane but it's great. Thanks for sharing it! Hope you are feeling better. I'll say a prayer for you. I know how hard it is to be sick especially this time of year! Take care,
Teresa,
I sure hope you start feeling MUCH better soon...I know how icky it is to be sick, ESPECIALLY this time of year. I don't envy your future medical tests (sounds better when it's put like THAT, huh?), but I'll be thinking of you.
I'll have to say this much...the colder weather IS making me feel better about the world in general (ha). I NEED the cold at this time of year or it just throws my whole perspective off. But if it's interfering in your recovery, I'm willing to go warm again. At least until your cold/sinus thing is cleared up (I'm pretty sure the outside weather won't help your UTI one bit either way!).
Thanks for the story of the candy cane...hadn't heard that in a while and it's always a good story, isn't it?
Take care of yourself and I'll have you in my thoughts,
Kari
